Synopsis: An MTV EXIT Special – a new documentary presented by actress Lara Dutta. This half hour documentary explores the world of Human Trafficking in South Asia. It is a gripping introduction to the tragedy of trafficking of young girls and boys into modern day slavery. Sold provides a compelling look into this seedy, inhuman and exploitative world and shows how each one of us can help to prevent and break the chain of human trafficking.

Synopsis: The film addresses the milieu of young people in rural India. It explores the norms regarding sex, romance and relationship that these norms create. Whenever these ideas/norms hinder the natural expression of sexual urge or passionate communication between two individuals, the result is oppression and exploitation of varying degrees in different structures of society.

Two Lives

Synopsis: Smriti and Rupa live an hour away from each other but the only thing their worlds seem to have in common is that they are both mothers. Smriti is a stay at home mom, living in a posh South Delhi colony and Rupa is a domestic worker living in a basti in Gurgaon. Both are pregnant and as they wait for their babies to be born, they reflect on what it means to be a mother. As new worlds open up for women and old roles persist, Two Lives looks at how women enact motherhood in our times.

Lakshmi and Me

Synopsis: Even in a metropolis like Bombay, old feudal attitudes still govern relationships between employers and their ‘servants'. Against this backdrop, Nishtha begins making a film with Lakshmi, her part-time maid. 20-year-old Lakshmi's is a precarious existence to begin with; illness and romance compound her problems in unexpected ways. As the filmmaker is drawn deeper into Lakshmi's life, she is forced to look at aspects of her own self as well, and to question many of the things she takes for granted. During a year and a half of dramatic changes, the process of filming has its own impact on unfolding events and on the relationship between the two women.

She Write

Synopsis: SheWrite weaves together the narratives and work of four Tamil women poets. Salma negotiates subversive expression within the tightly circumscribed space allotted to a woman in a small town. For Kuttirevathi, solitude is a crucial creative space from where her work resonates. Her anthology entitled Breasts (2003) elicited hate mail, obscene calls and threats. The fact that women poets are exploring themes such as desire and sexuality been opposed by some Tamil film lyricists, who have gone on record with threats of death and violence. This has been resisted by a collective of poets and artists called Anangu (Woman). Malathy Maitri is a founder member of Anangu. Her poems explore feminine power and spaces. Sukirtharani writes of desire and longing, celebrating the body and feminine empowerment. The film traverses these diverse modes of resistance, through images and sounds that evoke the universal experiences of pain, anger, desire and transcendence.
